Catan is a board game where you have to conquer an island. On the first two rounds, a player can create two settlements for free and they can place them anywhere on the map of Catan. But after the first two rounds they start getting resource cards from the hexes where they put their settlements. Each hex gives you a unique resource such as wood,Rock,Brick,etc . However each square has a number. When you roll a dice, the number would be for example, five and the hexes that have that number will give a resource card to any player who has a settlement there. And these resource cards can be used to build settlements,roads,and cities. However, none of the squares are marked with a seven. For if somebody rolls the seven they can move the robber. The robber is a little figure that can be moved by a player who has rolled a seven.If they choose to put it on a hex, that square will no longer produce anything. And if there’s a settlement on that hex then the player can steal one card from the person who has the settlement on the hex. You win the game by getting 10 victory points. One city is worth 2 victory points. One settlement is worth one victory point and if you get three knights in a row, you get the largest army card. The largest army card gives you two victory points. And if you place five roads, you get the largest road card which is also two victory points. But there’s also development cards such as the knight which I mentioned earlier. The knight is basically an equivalent of the robber as you can use the knight card to steal another player’s card. However, this time you can actually choose what the card is. And then there’s the monopoly card which allows a player to claim all resource cards of a specific type. Then there’s the victory point card that gives you one Victory point. You don’t need to play it to win. And finally there’s the year of Plenty card: you can get two resource cards of your choice from the bank. And also when you finish playing and somebody has won you need to do something called the SHING. I will show you what the Shing is in the video below.
