Last week, in school we were doing a debate. Half of the class put their hands in a pot filled with names of the other half of the class. The name they got they would be the partner they have for the debate. Then they would choose the subject by putting their hand in another pot. I got Harry and our subject was chocolate. I was for chocolate and Harry was against it. We started to work on our debate for a while and then we were done. So we started practicing it with sock puppets. My first argument was that dark chocolate helps protect hearts because there’s flavonoids inside that helps the heart. Harry’s first argument was that chocolate causes cardiovascular diseases. If you know what that means, you can guess how well that went down with him. My second argument was that some chocolates can actually help the blood vessels. Then Harry proceeded to say that milk chocolate and white chocolate have a lot of fat and sugar, so it’s unhealthy but then I counter argued that people just put those stuff in it to make it taste better and to get more money. Then my third argument was that the chocolate industry makes 103 billion dollars at least, yearly. Harry’s third and final argument was that chocolate is extremely expensive. You don’t need to be Einstein to figure out what his reaction was to my third and final argument.And then we showed the class our debate.Mme Soucy then assigned us a new debate.Now we have new partners. My partner is Jenna. We are supposed to decorate our socks for the new debate.Our subject is solar energy and I got inconveniences . Yeah you know who’s winning already. There’s two things you need to have desperately that I know of at least. Number one is argument that help you. And number two, is counter arguments for your opponent’s arguments. If your opponent is missing even one of those things you’ve won.Then again if you ever missing one as well that it’s an even race. The other day I was debating with my mom to give me a birthday gift for my 8th birthday that I wanted. It’s been like one year since my 8th birthday! So I decided to debate with her when she will get me the present. In the video,I think I said that I was negotiating, but right now, I’m going to call it debating.You can use that as an example to see what a real life debate feels like.
