Desert safari

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to be talking about me and my family’s Arabian Desert Safari. When we stopped in Dubai for a day on our trip to India, we enjoyed a desert safari with our family friends in their jeeps. It wasn’t an official tour, just something cooked up by them, based on their years of visiting the desert. I preffered their tour, if only because it was just as good as a paid tour, whilst being completely free!

Before we went into the desert, we had to deflate our tires using these small cylindrical devices called off-road deflators. Once we put them on our tire valves, an inbuilt timer was activated, and they deflated the tires until it was done. After this, the heavy car and our lighter car headed into the desert. However, as we in the lighter car neglected to empty our tires using the devices, instead opting to utilize our famous human brain by, for a lack of a better term,”Winging it”.

This meant that we emptied too little air, and when we got on the sand half the car was screaming due to the drifting, swerving and general chaos that came with it, so we stopped after 10 minutes and fixed our tires. Then we made a bet about which car would handle the desert the best, and my half of the car voted ours, as it’s light and the others said the heavier the better. It turns out their car got stuck 10 times whilst our ride was as smooth as silk. I never got my bag of chips.

Before the incident, we saw an Arabian sand gazelle, one of the many creatures that call the desert home. We also got to know that there snakes, scorpions, the Houbara Bustard, and many more make their home here, if only so we knew to be careful around suspicious piles of sand.

One interesting thing about the desert was the lack of cacti. Instead, we saw a bunch of different trees, including the “ghaf” tree.

Next, we enjoyed a high paced ride in the sand dunes, with the drivers reaching top speeds. We were often completely sideways, sometimes traveling at 80 km/h in the sand, which was an exhilarating experience. It was also really funny because of the reactions of the other passengers, who were absolutely terrified. We even pretended to be characters from action movies like James Bond.

We then stopped at a dune and had a race to the top. It was much harder than I originally thought, but incredibly fun. We took a group photo at the summit and then I rolled down the dune, which was exhilarating but left me covered in sand.

After our dune adventure, we drove back towards the road. Before reaching the highway, we stopped for a picnic by the oasis and played a fun country-guessing game. After that, we reinflated our tires and went back home.

Overall, it was an unforgettable desert safari experience.

Anyway, bye everyone and see you later!
