Crossword Bookstore

Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to talk about another one of my adventures during my visit to the Indian subcontinent. Specifically, my visit to Crossword Bookstore in Lulu Mall, Trivandrum. My mom had promised me that she would one day take me to Lulu Mall so we could buy some books, and as our trip came to its end on the second last day of our stay in Trivandrum, she took me there, just as she promised.

It took a while to find the bookstore, but once we did, I was rather shocked, because Crossword Bookstore has a remarkable collection of books for a shop of it’s size. It has lots of classics, great self-help books, well-written nonfiction books, as well as fiction, young fiction, and young adult fiction. There’s also romance novels, and they have a huge list of recommendations for you as well. Additionally, they have great deals and a big series of books. For example, while I was there, I made my mom buy the whole series of “The Wheel of Time.” “The Wheel of Time” is a really good book series, so much so that it received its own TV show on Amazon Prime Video. The whole series is 15 books and comes in a massive box that weighs 9 kg. With the deals they had, because they had 30% or 50% off on everything for some reason, we ended up only paying $100 for 15 books, and all the books are about the size of a Harry Potter book. It was a huge deal.

One of these examples is when we also got a few classic novel, such as Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne remarkably cheap as well, due to the 50% off sales. I also ended up acquiring a copy of “The Chalice of the Gods” by Rick Riordan, and I got a special copy, which is only sold in the Indian subcontinent due to its unique cover. Normally, in North America, you have a different one. The quality of the books was amazing, and I instantly started reading “Journey to the Center of the Earth” as we visited other parts of the mall. It was an amazing book, and I recommend it for you.

The only thing I didn’t understand about the bookstore was the fact that it was called Crossword Bookstore when I didn’t see a single crossword puzzle in there at all. In fact, it was organized quite like Indigo or Chapters, as some people call it. The oly connection I can make between Crossword and books, is that you sometimes use the dictionary to look up definitions for crossword puzzles if you like to cheat at them.

The shoppers at Crossword Bookstore were actually quite surprised by how many books we ended up purchasing, especially due to the fact that most kids nowadays don’t really like reading, which is something I do not understand because reading is amazing. So, they were very impressed when we bought all those books. After we got back, my dad told me that the guy who told us that I was very good at reading and that I was very smart and asked if I liked reading a lot of books was probably just someone who was promoting the bookstore. He said this based on his personal experience with these kinds of things. Once there was this hospital that his friend owned, and there was this guy on the road telling everyone that it was an amazing hospital and the doctors there were amazing. Turns out, the guy was actually my dad’s friend’s dad, and was helping his son.

Oh, I forgot to mention that there were also various different graphic novels and picture books for little kids and people who enjoy reading graphic novels. Sadly, we couldn’t go to the library in Trivandrum because of the length of our visit, but I was happy that we could at least visit Crossword to experience some Indian literature.

The only other book we got on the trip was from this airport bookstore my mom said she’d buy me a book from. Turns out it was an airport bookstore that had copies of “Murtagh” available, which is the fifth installment in the Inheritance Cycle and has only recently been released. Well, not recently, it’s been like a month, but still rather new. I didn’t even know it had been released until I saw it in the airport. I already read it, amazing, and I recommend it as well if you’re a fan of the Inheritance Cycle.

But anyway, back to the bookstores. I really loved the experience, and I hope to revisit Crossword when we come back to India next year. Anyway, bye everyone, see you later!
