Hello everyone! Today, I’ll be sharing my experience at Pankayam, a restaurant I visited during my day. On the second-to-last day of my trip to India, we visited the city of Trivandrum. While exploring a part of Trivandrum, my mom spotted a shop, prompting her to go inside for some clothes. With a friend and my grandparents in tow, we decided to have lunch. Leaving for lunch, and leaving our purchased items back to pick them up later, we headed to this restaurant my mom had heard really good review about, that was only a short walk from the store.

Pankayam is a unique restaurant situated in shipping containers, resembling a scrapyard or fish base. Their innovation is evident in the use of materials like rusty buckets, shipping containers, and old wrenches for decoration. Lunch took place inside one of the horizontally stacked shipping containers, six of which formed the top floor where all the dining occurred. The menu featured a variety of seafood, including fishes and various Indian bread like nan, parotta and chapati. Fun Fact! Pankayam means oar in malayalam.
Three of our group ordered seafood, while my grandma and I opted for beef and chapati. The meals were delicious, though the service was a bit slow, and the Wi-Fi went down after a while. The restaurant’s theme was named “industrial chic,” fitting for its unique setting.
Pankayam’s location in a coastal city like Trivandrum aligns well with its seafood theme. The Indian subcontinent’s coastal areas boast a variety of seafood, including crab, sardines, mackerel, and squid. I won’t delve into details about prices, but the restaurant was bustling with people. The total cost for a whole meal was $11, a great deal considering the freshness and quality of the food.
I look forward to revisiting Pankayam on future trips. Anyway, bye everyone, see you later!
