Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to be talking about the haunted house that we made for our school. Every year, at our school, the grade sevens, which is the oldest class, get to make a haunted house for the whole school to enjoy on Halloween. We had a few weeks to plan everything and then built it all on the day of the big event. You bring in everything you’re going to need and some extra stuff, and then you finish up by adding all the spooky decorations from the school that you’re going to use.

Most of the time, people choose to make a maze, because there are lots of mats and stuff in the gymnasium, which is where our haunted house happened. So, yeah, we went with a maze. But it wasn’t just any maze; it was more like a path that led you through different eerie areas. We used gym mats and black sheets to create darkness. Sadly, it was a really sunny day, so it was still quite bright inside.
Now, onto the actual design of the haunted house. We scattered a bunch of creepy decorations throughout the maze and added a couple of jump scares too. At the entrance, we even had one of those airport-style line barriers to control the people, and we sent groups in with a tour guide each. We’d send two groups in at a time and let one group go a bit faster than the other to create some suspense.
For sound effects, we had a spooky soundtrack playing in the background, and one of the students in my class made some scary noises using a wheel. But there was one more thing โ we had this big wooden structure we used to create a loud banging sound to make it even scarier.
Now, let me give you a little tour of our haunted maze. It started in our school’s mini gym, which is a rectangle with two doors on opposite walls. People went in through the right door and followed the path until they reached a corner where we had a jump scare. Someone knocked over a wall and jumped at them. But at the very beginning, there was a surprise. You could grab a flashlight from a bowl, and what people didn’t realize was that we had someone hiding underneath. They’d grab your hand as you reached for the flashlight. And while they were grabbing you, someone in a shark costume jumped out from behind them!
After that, you went under a giant tarp through a bunch of tunnels where we threw beanbags at you, making it feel even more spooky. Then you’d exit the tarp, take a left, and encounter more jump scares with people throwing beanbags at you. After a few twists and turns, you’d eventually take a right and encounter another scare with a person in a black costume. It was a real adrenaline rush!
Then, you’d get to the climax of our haunted house: the Dino Den. We had three dinosaurs in total, with one hidden as a “statue” in a cage. Two others were behind a wall, and they’d go wild when the first person walked by. It was hilarious and terrifying at the same time. And there was a surprise teddy bear that dropped from the ceiling to give you one final jump scare.
We had some variations in the scares because different classes had different levels of scariness. We couldn’t scare the teachers too much, though; they’re adults, after all!
Our haunted house was a big success. We had a ton of fun scaring our friends and classmates. The only thing that didn’t work was the disco lights and fog machine.
In the end, we learned that teamwork makes the dream work. It was amazing how we all came together to create such a spooky experience for everyone at our school. Oh yeah, and one last tip: if you’re planning to make a haunted house, make sure to get some window blinds. They can really help create that eerie atmosphere!
I hope you have a hauntingly good Halloween! ๐๐ป
