Oakville Ribfest

Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to talk about Ribfest, a carnival held in Oakville. More specifically, this year it was held at the Sheridan college campus. The Festival has a lineup of really big stalls offering delicious cooked ribs that are prepared on the spot, along with other, smaller stands which sell carnival food such as popcorn or funnel cake. As a way to make the festival feel more interactive, one has the option to vote for which ever stall has the best ribs, and then the stall with the most votes wins a trophy, along with the runner-ups. The vast majority of the stalls are run by veterans of previous competitions from different places, and have won numerous awards for their ribs.

At the festival, visitors enjoyed not only delicious treats but also a variety of rides and fun carnival games catered to kids and young families. The participants had the chance to win stuffed animals and inflatables as prizes. Some of the classic games available included the strongman game, Ball-In-Basket, and The Dart Game, among others.

As for the rides, there were three notable ones present:

  1. The Bouncy House: A colorful inflatable structure that allowed children to jump and bounce to their heart’s’ content, creating an atmosphere of excitement and laughter.
  2. The Merry-Go-Round Swing: A traditional carousel-style swing that gently rotated while carrying riders in charming, intricately designed seats.
  3. The Merry-Go-Round: Another classic attraction, a carousel with beautifully crafted animals and chariots that spun around, creating a magical experience for both kids and parents.

Unfortunately, we missed out on the inflatable slides, as they had been deflated before our arrival. Since it was the last day of the festival, everything was being taken down a bit early, and the festivities were ending earlier than usual. Despite this, the day was still filled with joy as families enjoyed the remaining activities at the festival.

Along with the rides, games and food, a band was playing live music to set the mood, and was filling the air with joy and wonder, along with enhancing the atmosphere of the carnival . Because of all this, it was an extremely enjoyable experience, which was doubled by the fact that I went there with a bunch of our friends, and I’m sure that we’ll remember that day for the rest of our lives.

After a fun-filled day at the Ribfest, we returned home around seven in the evening, still chuckling about the hilarious turn of events. It was amusing that we went to a Ribfest but ended up eating nothing except blooming onion and funnel cake! Instead of indulging in ribs at the festival, we opted for a feast of steak, chicken, and burgers back at home.

Sharing this comical experience with our friends only added to the joy of the day. We all laughed heartily, reminiscing about how our Ribfest adventure turned into a delightful culinary detour. After a while, we all called it a night and hit the hay.

After the festival, I started to remember finding some of the items being sold to be rather unusual, like beaver tails. I was also unfamiliar with some of the other items, like baked empanadas, as I had never tried them before. On the other hand, there were plenty of items that I absolutely love and was delighted to see there, such as Mini-Donuts, Poutine (which I was particularly excited about), butter chicken, butter chicken poutine, roasted corn, blooming onions, and butterfly fries.

In addition to the tempting food options, the vendors offered a diverse range of products for sale. I noticed handmade jewelry, t-shirts, hats, children’s clothing, inflatable balloons, yoga goods, hot sauce (which seemed to be quite popular), sunglasses, scented oils, and candles. It was like a mini marketplace within the festival, providing plenty of shopping opportunities for various interests and preferences.

Also, there was a gym bus (which I didn’t fully understand) along with a fire truck and a bunch of police officers there for safety, but that didn’t stop the officers from having some coffee and donuts. Fun Fact! The only ride we went on was called the Merry-Go-Round Swing. It’s basically the same thing as a regular Merry-Go-Round, but it swings you while turning you.

By the end of the fair, I had actually managed to win two stuffed animals from various games. I won Marvin the Monkey and Herman the Husky. Anyway, bye everyone! See you later!
