Shepherd’s Pie

Hello everyone! Today, I’m going to be talking about shepherd’s pie, a traditional English dish. If you don’t know what shepherd’s pie is, you probably have a very incorrect perception of what it looks like. Instead of being like actual pies, shepherd’s pie is just beef and a bunch of vegetables on the bottom, and cheesy mashed potatoes on the top. It surprisingly tastes extremely good. It’s easy to make too, you just need the right ingredients. Another thing you also need is the ability to concentrate, because when me and my mom were making shepherd’s pie, we messed up the recipe and burnt the beef. We didn’t burn it much, and we fixed the recipe afterwards so it tasted alright in the end, and by all right I mean really good. We were going to leave some for a friend, but my dad just went and finished the whole thing. I guess it’s just that good.

If you’re wondering why it’s called shepherd’s pie, I was wondering that too. I ended up just deciding to Google it, and I found some results. I found that shepherd’s pie made with beef is actually called cottage pie.

The reason why shepherd’s pie is called shepherd’s pie is because the mashed potatoes are patterned to look like a sheep’s fleece, and instead of beef, mutton and lamb were used. As a shepherd looks after sheep,(from which comes mutton and lamb) they call it shepherd’s pie. It isn’t just from England though. It’s also a popular dish in France. Obviously the French have a different name for it, but it’s essentially just the same thing.

So in reality we didn’t make shepherd’s pie, we just made cottage pie with beef, vegetables and potato. The reason why I decided to make shepherd’s pie and also make a blog post about it is because I had it at school in the cafeteria, and it tasted really good. So I got the idea “hey why don’t I make a blog post out of it”, and here we are! That pretty much wraps up my summary of shepherd’s pie. Bye everyone and see you in another blog post!
