Hitler’s overall strategy was very similar to the german one in World War 1
- Attack France
- Defeat France
- Taking out Britain as well
- Then turn on the Soviet Union and win the war
During the Phony War, the allies had given Hitler time to prepare, and he was now finally ready. The allies had wanted to move troops into Belgium, but Belgium refused, as it had already been through the same thing in World War 1.
Then, Germany did the one thing every one expected:they invaded Belgium to get past France’s defences. The Allies went into Belgium to counter Hitler’s Invasion, but they didn’t realize that he had a new trick up his sleeve: Blitzkrieg. While the German armies were marching through Belgium, they sent thousands of refugees forward, which slowed down the allies. While preparing, the French had left the Ardennes, a region covered in hills and trees pretty under defended, as they thought it was naturally impenetrable. Hitler decided then to show for the French wrong. He penetrated the Ardennes with 50 Wehrmacht divisions and encircled the Allied troops in Belgium, capturing the best of France’s army, and nearly all the British, but they were brought home by ships at Dunkirk where they made a last minute escape, and some civilians even crossed the channel with their boats to bring their young men home. Sadly, with the loss of the best french troops, France could not create a strong enough defense to stop the Germans, so the germans took over.

What Germany couldn’t do in World War, Hitler had done just like that. Hitler had also hoped that the UK would surrender once France had fell, but annoyingly it didn’t. Since it hadn’t surrendered, Hitler decided to play Mind Games to get them to submit. Britain was all alone, and Hitler emphasized that. Just before France had fallen, Italy had finally declared war on the Allies making Britain’s predicament even worse. To make Britain think that France had gone over to the German side, Hiller only occupied the coastal areas for defense, but let the other half of France live as a puppet state kind of making it show that friends was kind of on the German side now. They also hoped that the British wouldn’t attack any of their old allies colonies in Africa giving Hitler another line of defense, and the British made sure to respond to that by going down to one of France’s Naval bases and destroying a bunch of ships. Like I said, Winston Churchill at a different approach to dealing with the Germans. Hitler also made plans for an invasion of Great Britain. To invade Great Britain, Hitler needed naval and air superiority over the channel. Waves of German bombers Flew Over the channel, and they outnumbered RAF worked tirelessly around the clock to repel the Invaders, but with little success.

The Luftwaffe targeted Coastal facilities, then RAF facilities, which prevented the RAF from defending the attacks Pearson it looked as if Hitler would take over Britain after all, but then Churchill ordered a small insignificant bombing raid on Berlin, and Hitler became Furious and ordered that the Luftwaffe attack only London. Children were forced to be sent to the countryside for the protection. Frequent trips to air raid shelters became normal. However, the British Morrell firm. Nothing he did seem to shake them. When the Luftwaffe attacked only London, he gave the RAF time to repair their planes, so they were able to repel the attack on London, destroying many German aircraft. This firmly placed air superiority over the channel in British hands, and Hitler’s great invasion of Britain was stopped. However, the bombing of British cities continued for some time.
