Great Wall of China 2

The Great Wall of China, is a big wall that extends across a large area of territory in China. It was built by the Ming Dynasty,  one of the ancient Dynasties in Ancient China.

Back then, the wall was built to protect China from the Mongols, nomads from northern China. But China was small, so do they just built it along the border but now it’s expanded a lot.So the wall really just is a tourist attraction and doesn’t really do anything now. It also has little watchtowers built across it. Also I think it’s time we give a bit of information about the Mongols. They were very aggressive and dangerous. Very dangerous. So the Chinese built little  traps for them. For example,  people were always very confused about a certain hole in the wall. It turned out to be a secret tunnel covered up with a thin layer of brick,so that the soldiers could bust through easily to surprise the Mongols on the other side. There were also little holes that were shaped perfectly along sections of the wall. These holes were used to roll bombs out into the Mongol troops attacking.

As you can guess that did a lot of damage. Also, fun fact! The Chinese discovered gunpowder.

At the end of the wall, there was a fort, magnificently built. It has a deep moat, walls 36 feet high, and watch towers on every corner. This formed three layers of defense. If somehow the enemy gets inside, there are traps designed to create devastating kill zones. If the invaders got in one kill zone, the would trap them by closing the doors and raining fire and arrows down and killing them. The precision needed to make it was immense.

There is a legend that the architect told the emperor that he could tell him the exact amount of bricks needed to build this fortress. He said it would take 900 999 bricks. There was one brick left and it was left on a ledge as a mini monument to the precision the fortress had. The fortress was called The First and greatest pass under heaven. But it’s just a small part of a megastructure like nothing else on earth. Just one end of their Great Wall of China. The wall itself is 5 and a half thousand miles long. That’s over 1500 miles longer than previously thought.
