Photography with Thomas Vijayan

Hello everyone!

Today I’m writing about one of my dad’s friends, Thomas Vijayan. If you haven’t heard of him, he’s a photographer that won an award for his photo of an Orangutan.

Once, me, my family, and my parents’ friends went on a photography trip to Masai Mara, Kenya. Me and Vijayan uncle were in the same Jeep! We would drive around taking photos of things. By things I mean wild animals like a gazelle, elephants, lions, tigers, and more. Anyway, one day, I was in the Jeep when we were looking for a gazelle, I saw one and you’ll never believe what happened. I managed to get an a picture of it jumping in the backdrop of sunset! Everybody said it was very good when they saw it. Vijayan uncle has also taken some other photos, for example a photo of an Empire penguin. He took it in Antarctica. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that he is the gold winner and the grand prize of world nature photographer of the year.

The photo that won him the award was taken in Borneo, Malaysia. As you saw, it appears as if he put the camera under the tree and waited for the orangutan to climb down on the tree but he didn’t know that at all! He simply found a tree with a lake surrounding it, and then waited for a oruragutan from the top of the tree, and waited for the orangutan to climb up the tree. That’s why it looks like in the photo that he took it from the bottom and the orangutan is staring into the camera. Another thing is that the orangutan is an endangered species. Personally I think his photograph is no doubt the greatest photo I have ever seen. The reason is because it looks as if he really just turned into a tree or a weed or something with the orangutan climbing down. He manipulated the minds of everyone with his photograph. Well, until he explained in the photo magazine.
