Hi everybody, if you know a kid who doesn’t like to read, you should read this post and tell them the benefits of reading.
Reading helps your social skills by teaching words to you, guiding you on how to make friends and making you understand the value of friendship. A lot of people don’t realize this but in books there are a lot of life lessons even if they are fiction books. Reading can also help your personality because some books have a lot of life lessons in them, for example how to be kind and generous. Some books teach you how not to do stuff in life. If you can take a character and feel like you are in his or her shoes, that could improve your behavior and social interactions.
It’s important for a kid to know how to read because reading helps children to increase their knowledge. Fiction books are useful if they get bored and can’t find something to do. They can just read a book! I enjoy reading because I feel like it takes me to another world especially books that are described extremely well. I feel like I’m a character in them and sometimes actually I pretend to be a character in the book. If nonfiction theme is combined with fiction as in sci-fi books, it can be fun. Such books help kids with brain development and entertain them at the same time. I always read sci-fi books as they are on my favorite booklist. As an example of a book like this, I suggest the Geronimo Stilton series. In these books, Geronimo Stilton has to go around the world to solve problems and mysteries. He is a detective, an editor and a reporter. He is also the head of the ‘Rodents Gazette’. The reason why it’s called the Rodents Gazette is because all the characters in Geronimo Stilton series is a rat or a mouse.
If you want to get somebody to read, first you need to show them books and reviews about them. You can start by gifting them books about topics they like. Science, science fiction, magic, murder mysteries, animals, minecraft, stuff like that. For a very young reader to get started, you should read with them at first and once they can read chapter books, you can let them to read on their own. Once they start asking to go to the library frequently, you know they really like books. Also encourage somebody to read by giving them a really good series of books. I started to read Harry Potter when my friend gave me the first book. Once I read it, I was hooked and ended up reading the entire series several times. If you don’t have access to certain books, try searching up the name of the book on Google to get the free PDF version. Most likely there would be a free pdf that somebody has made available online. Audio books are another option but they aren’t exactly like books. They can present a story but don’t actually encourage reading much. It does help to get audible at Amazon prime. If they listen to an audiobook that is just an introduction, kids might actually want to read the entire book.
For the 3-6 year old kids who don’t have much experience with writing or reading you can introduce them to picture books and fairy tales and once they are six they can start reading chapter books if they haven’t already started reading them before. I’ve only read one picture book in my life but it was really good at describing what was going on. They’re really good at describing a story without words and the kid might want to read books with more words when they get older. As parents or grandparents it’s your job to encourage reading to young readers as reading is an extremely important hobby in life.You can show them books you used to read when you were little and that could get them interested in reading. If you know any exciting books that you think they would like, try gifting them for their birthday. It’s a common scheme used by parents to get their kids reading and it’s extremely effective. Another type of books that are good for beginners are comic books, they are basically books except you don’t have to imagine in your head what’s going on. Young readers like these sort of books because it means there’s less work for them, but as they grow up they will most likely start wanting to read chapter books.
Kids who are in elementary school sometimes aren’t good readers. So here are a few tips that can help them get better at reading. You can get them to watch TV shows that have book versions and maybe they will want to read the different versions of it in books and they most likely will start wanting to read the entire series. For example, when I found The Last Kids on Earth series on Netflix, I started to read the books in real life. It was great on Netflix, so I decided to see how it was with the books. If you’re a teacher you can set up a good library in your school and your classroom to encourage elementary kids to read. Since it’s a school library the students will most likely take more care of the books. You as a teacher can also influence young readers by setting assignments such as book reports. These books have to be without movies that are exactly like them otherwise kids are just going to watch the movie and write the report based on that. You can also put up a library in the corner of the class room where kids can read when they have finished their class work. You could also allow kids to bring books to school and sometimes that attracts the attention of other kids and inspires them to read more books. Some kids like to read in a specific spot. My reading nook is near the fireplace in my house. It helps to put your books in the place where you read so you don’t have to go find them. If there is a song that makes you think about a certain book, play that song while you’re reading. This makes it a lot more realistic. I use this tip when I read books.
Adults should read because sometimes everything can’t be found online and if they are taking courses like MBA, books are VERY useful. Adults should also read for entertainment because sometimes they can get bored while doing their jobs. So, it’s good to have a book handy at work. Grandparents should also read because sometimes they can lose memory and reading should help them retain it. If there’s a book written by a celebrity that you think your grandparents would like, then you should show it to them and they might start reading books like that.
Libraries are basically buildings that are made of books. There’s a lot of books in there that you can borrow so they are technically free as long as you don’t return them late. Libraries have two important things for young readers. Number one is books and number two is people have to take care of the books so they don’t have to pay the fee. Libraries are exciting opportunities for young readers like my cousin. He started going to the library when he was three and is six now, so he’s been going to the library for 3 years. Borrowing a book teaches kids how to take care of a book because it’s not theirs and it belongs to somebody else. You need to tell them to keep that book safe and make sure it isn’t harmed. Libraries also help the planet because when you borrow a book, you don’t buy it and when you buy it, it has to be replaced. Therefore, libraries are helping environment because paper comes from trees and we have to cut down trees for books.
